Jeonju is a city in western South Korea, where you can experience the strong contrast between traditional and modern Korea. The Korean Traditional Heritage Village or "Hanok Maul" as the Korean call it not only offers a view of the past traditions but also an opportunity to experience living in the village.

The Jeonju Hanok Village is a nice place to relax and experince some of the local craftworks and delicacies. Staying in the village instead of a hotel is strongly recommended if you are seeking to have a taste of the traditional way of living. Despite being surrounded by the modern city of Jeonsu - the 16th largest cit in South Korea - it is remarkable how quite and calm the pace within the village can be after the sunset.

On the southeast side of the village, there is a little hill that leads to the Omokdae, a wooden structure. Being in a higher elevation it offers a unique and picturesque view of the Hanok village that you will remember.

The Hakon village is also home to the Gyeonggijeon Hall. Gyeonggijeon Hall was originally built in 1410 to store the portrait of the king of the Joseon dynasty and to perform ancestral rites. The Main Hall houses a portrait of King Taejo, the founding ruler of the Joseon Dynasty. The portrait found in the Main Hall is the only one that remained in Korea.
