Positive psychology is the study of how positive emotions and mindset can improve quality of life and wellbeing. The main focus is on self-acceptance and gratitude.
By intentionally practicing mindful awareness, people can learn to control and accept their own thoughts, feelings, and actions, becoming happier in the process. Awareness allows us to manage our focus and manage our emotions. By being mindful we can be more emotionally conscious of our thoughts and feelings, allowing us to pause and reflect. This is especially important for self-care and for taking care of ourselves and our emotions. Learning to be mindful has the potential to reduce stress and anxiety too.
The concept of positive psychology emphasizes the positive elements of human behavior. Exploring the consequences of positive attitudes and values in people’s lives and ways that those positive qualities can be influenced. Here we would take a look at how understanding thoughts can influence positively our behavior.
Positive thinking
Positive thinking often involves thoughts about things that we can improve, in terms of our health, our relationships, and our career. Study after study has demonstrated that if we focus on how things can get better, we are more likely to make an effort to improve them. On the other hand, when we focus on negative thoughts, we tend to sabotage our goals. Negative thoughts also tend to snowball. When we spend more time focusing on how bad things can get, and less time focusing on the upside of our situation, we are more likely to fail to act to improve our situations. In a way, we want to succeed but we are determined to fail. Negative thinking and positive thinking go hand in hand. We focus on what we don't want, or on problems. However, once we shift our focus to the positive, and decide to do something differently, we are far more likely to succeed.

Stimulating positive thinking should be an everyday habit. This can be done in different ways. One can think of small things. For instance, instead of remembering everything you didn’t get done during the day, think of the things you did accomplish. In a similar way, instead of thinking about what you don’t have, think about what you do have; it will be much more encouraging and motivational.
Another way to stimulate positive thinking is to pick one area and focus on it. Maybe there is one way you can make your daily life more enjoyable for example the way you dress, or perhaps it is how you handle your attitude at home. Every evening consider to reflect either on your own or exchanging with your partner three things that you are thankful about for that particular day. Such small everyday activities of positive thinking will help you create a cycle of long-term positive thinking and may get you to a place where you remain more and more positive. You can use such small things as a foundation for positive thinking and start from there. This will help you to stay motivated and be more relaxed.
Overall, the main point is to focus on the good aspects of your life and the things you are grateful for. When you do this, you are less likely to think negatively about yourself. Another important aspect is to stop comparing yourself to others. This habit can really stop you from seeing the beauty and uniqueness in you. Always focus on the good qualities and virtues that you possess so you develop self-respect that you can only get from within yourself.
